There were, obviously, exceptions! So, bear with me if you know better. I tried my best to figure out what type of device the following apps are used with but, amazingly, many of them made that information VERY difficult to find. (There should be more!) I have NOT used all of these programs – I’ve just done the collating for you! You need to make the decisions! Sorry. No affiliate links here – well, there’s one. These, obviously, aren’t all that is available but, I’ve tried to provide a wide-ish variety.
There’s free software listed and the expensive – with links and brief descriptions. From free to expensive, for PC, Windows, Kindle or Macs, I’ve tried to cover a few of each. You have to know its limitations and you have to be willing to work around it.Some of the best photo editing software that I’ve found on the web. The verdict: It's worth it for people who have a similar photography style/workflow. It doesn't seem to care that much about layers in Photoshop. Need more storage - attach an external drive. Need more screen space - attach an external monitor. It's perfectly fine to attach peripherals to it. I take it out and I can walk around with it as if it's a tablet. That 11" Air fits in the iPad compartment of my camera bag. Processing the RAW files was also laggy and it took about 6 hours to export all those files to 8"x12" size. A catalog of 500 18MP RAW files would just be to much for the computer. When I was done I only had around 200 images to import. I first used Bridge to make my selects from about 500 images. I shot my friend's wedding with a 7D and had to use a different workflow. It probably takes an hour or two just for that. Exporting large web-size jpegs (maybe about 1500 pixels on the long side) from a catalog of about 400 files is enough to make the computer scream. It's slow and the computer sounds like a jet engine. If I want a new camera with twice the megapixels, I'll be out of luck (not sure how a new Macbook Air handles). Small RAW files + few photos = perfectly fine for a Macbook Air. I also don't MG42 "machine gun" the camera so I don't have a lot of files after a shoot. I use an 8MP dSLR (Canon 30D) so my RAW files are under 10MB. My equipment and shooting style just happens to work fine with a Macbook Air. When I do get small gigs here and there, my 11" Macbook Air has been able to get me through the job. I work full-time as a photographer though I normally ask my clients to provide the equipment. Specs: Late 2010 11" Macbook Air 1.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM 128GB SSD I can't tell you what to get but I can tell you how I use my Macbook Air.
